Contando Bicicletas

Contando Bicicletas formed in Bogotá in 1996 with Felipe Muñoz, Andrés Durán, and Mauricio Montenegro. The name translates to 'Counting Bicycles,' though the band hasn't explained what that means in interviews. They put out their first album in 1999, also called Contando Bicletas, which established their mix of pop and rock with some Colombian rhythms.

Their 2005 album Números drew criticism from religious groups who found some of the material offensive. The band defended the work, but the attention was uncomfortable. They kept recording through the 2000s, with albums like De Frente in 2008 and Volver in 2013. Songs like Atrito and 19:06 became staples for their listeners.

Over time, other musicians like bassist David Jaramillo and drummer Mauricio Sánchez played with the core trio. Their catalog includes tracks such as Cabeça Nas Nuvens and Olhos, which have a straightforward, melodic quality that doesn't try too hard to be profound.
