Contaste Portugal

Contraste Portugal formed in Lisbon in the early 1990s, with Paulo Pedro and Fernando Pereira at the core. They started playing local shows while working on material that mixed Portuguese rhythms with more contemporary sounds. Their song 'Menina da Playboy' caught attention for its direct lyrics about a 'playboy girl,' which some radio stations refused to play. The band kept performing it anyway, and it became their best-known track.

They put out albums like Contraste in 1994 and Horizonte in 1996, followed by Sem Medo in 1997 and Portugal Um in 1999. By the early 2000s they had released compilation and live records, including Contraste 10 Anos in 2001. The group's lineup has included Manuel Carlos on drums and José Maria on keyboards alongside the founding members.
