Contingente Imigrante formed in the 1980s, a Brazilian band whose members came from different parts of the world. Their music dealt with migration and displacement, themes that felt personal to them. They released their first album in 1988, simply called 'Contingente Imigrante'.
Their 1990 album 'A República do Adeus' gave them their most recognizable song, the title track. That song, along with others like 'Brasileiro' and 'O Vôo,' spoke to the experience of leaving home and the complicated feelings that come with it. The band's lineup included Vinicius Costa on vocals and guitar, Rubinho Jacobina on bass and vocals, Daniel Szafranski on guitar, and Felipe Cordeiro on drums.
They kept recording through the 1990s, putting out albums like 'Memórias do Exílio' in 1994 and 'Novas Pátrias' in 2000.
