Coppelius formed in 2005, taking their name from a character in E.T.A. Hoffmann's macabre tale 'The Sandman.' Their music draws from classical composers, traditional folk tunes, and rock, though they've avoided being pinned to any single genre. Their song '1916' serves as a tribute to those lost in the Great War.

They released their debut album 'Bring the Light,' which introduced their blend of folk, rock, and electronic elements. Later albums included 'The Bolt from the Blue,' 'Disorder and Dissonance,' and 'The Death of Marat,' often exploring themes of war and human experience.
