Copperpot formed in Northern California during the mid-1990s, with Julia Stone and Chris Coleman at the center. They started playing acoustic folk music in coffeehouses, eventually adding Ben McGrath on bass and Dan Hall on drums. The independent label Dreamland Records signed them, and they put out their first album, 'The Other Side of the World,' in 1997.
That album included 'Girl Next Door,' which became their breakout song. It got significant radio play and helped them tour more widely. They followed it with another album called 'In Your Eyes' in 2000. Around 2002, drummer Dan Hall left the group, and they brought in someone new to take his place.
Beyond 'Girl Next Door,' their catalog includes songs like 'Anything I Ever Do,' 'I'm Not Leaving,' and 'You Gave Me Nothing.' They were part of that late-90s wave of folk-rock acts that leaned on acoustic arrangements and vocal harmonies.
