Futen på Hafslo var ein hardsett mann, som
bøndene ikkje hadde mykje hug til.
Dei reiste for å klage til kongen i
København og der måtte dei vente 3 dagar i
slottsgarden til fånyttes, for dei fekk ikkje
bere fram klaga.
Difor vart dei tvungne til å gjere vendereis,
med vilje til å drepa futen.
Når futen såg sognebøndene komme,
skjønte han kva som ville skje om dei fekk
tak i han.
Han flykta til hest, med bøndene hakk i hæl,
heilt til ferda enda ved den ville
Helvetesfossen i årøyelva.
I desperasjon freista han å hoppe over elva,
men ramla av berget på den andre sida og
gjekk lukt i fossen.
