Cornelio Reyna was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León in 1940. His father was a musician who introduced him to norteño music, a regional style that draws from polka, waltz, and ballad traditions. He was influenced by artists like Eulalio González 'Piporro' and Ramón Ayala.
Reyna recorded a number of albums, including 'Me Caí de la Nube' in 1976 and 'Te Vas a Quedar' in 1981. He worked with other norteño musicians, including Ramón Ayala, Los Invasores de Nuevo León, and Los Cadetes de Linares. His band Los Relámpagos del Norte included his brother Mario on accordion and his cousin Jaime Cantú on bajo sexto.
He died in Monterrey in 1997. Songs like 'Me Caí de la Nube' and 'Ni Por Mil Punados de Oro' remain part of the norteño repertoire.
