Cornelis Vreeswijk

He moved to Stockholm as a teenager and began performing in the city's bohemian circles, developing a style that mixed storytelling with straightforward guitar work.

In 1964, his song 'Hönan Agda' caused a stir with its frank portrayal of a woman's sexuality, drawing both criticism and attention. That same year, he released 'Visor och Ballader,' a collection of early material that helped establish his reputation. He kept writing and recording through the 1970s, putting out albums like 'Tio Dagar i Nashville' after a trip to the American South and 'Ballad för en Skärgård,' which reflected on the Swedish archipelago.

Vreeswijk often worked with a small group of musicians, including guitarist Stefan Brogren and jazz pianist Jack Bay. His songs, such as '13-9-73: Liedje Voor Linnea' and 'Ångbåtsblues,' tended to be direct and personal, dealing with everyday moments and relationships without much polish. He died in 1987, but his recordings continue to be heard in Sweden.
