una voce ascoltò:
"Madre, orsù!

Lo stranier
calpesta ancor le mie frontier.
Io la Patria son,
i miei figli tutti eu vo'.

è qui alle frontier!"
"Su, parti figlio mio,
la Patria ti chiamò,
e t'accompagni Iddio,
per te Lo pregherò.
Ma verso l'orizzonte,
dove tu combatterai,
a notte, su quel monte,
la madre tua verrà".
Così, a mezzanotte
la vecchia arrivava,
dall'alto chiamava
il suo figlio Alpin.
"Figlio, qui,
fra neve e gel, starò così,
di laggiù,
la madre tua chiama anche tu".

rispondeva ognor l'Alpin.
Lieta in cuor
lei se ne tornava allor.
