Countdown formed in Tokyo in 1994. Their debut album 'Countdown 1' came out the following year and included the track 'Hana no Oedo no Harukaze Musume.' They released three more albums through the late 1990s.
Some of their songs touched on difficult social topics, which drew both attention and criticism. In 1999, the band dealt with plagiarism allegations, but they put out another album afterward.
The group was a quartet with Keisuke Kuwata on vocals, Masato Nakamura on guitar, Hiromi Takenaka on keyboards, and Kenji Takahashi on drums. Their music pulled from pop and rock, with some classical touches in the arrangements.
