Cowboy do Cerrado formed in 2007 in Goiás, a central-western Brazilian state with strong cattle ranching traditions. The band was started by brothers Leandro and Breno Falcão along with cousins Marcelo and Maurício Marcolini. Their first album came out in 2010, simply titled "Cowboy do Cerrado."
Their music pulls from sertanejo rhythms but mixes in rock and pop elements, which didn't sit well with some traditional sertanejo listeners at first. Songs like "Flor do Amor" and "Loucuras de Amor" show that blend. They kept recording through the 2010s, putting out albums like "Som do Cerrado" in 2012 and "Fronteiras" in 2018.
In 2015, they got tangled in a plagiarism dispute over their song "Evidências," with composer José Augusto claiming copyright infringement. The band was eventually cleared after a legal fight, but the episode stuck with them.
