Crazy Horse began as Neil Young's backing band for his 1969 album 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere.' The original lineup included bassist Billy Talbot, guitarist Danny Whitten, and drummer Ralph Molina. Their sound was built on loose, extended jams and a raw, unpolished approach that became their trademark.
After Whitten's death in 1972, Young and the remaining members continued with guitarist Frank 'Poncho' Sampedro joining. They worked with Young on albums like 'Rust Never Sleeps,' which featured the song 'I Don't Want To Talk About It.' Their playing remained rough-edged and spontaneous, favoring feel over precision.
Crazy Horse recorded and toured intermittently with Young over the following decades. Their collaborations were often marked by long, improvisational live takes in the studio. The band's identity stayed tied to that basic, elemental rock sound they established early on.
