Crazy Pigs

Crazy Pigs formed in 1978 from members of the earlier group Som Imaginário, with Osvaldo Montenegro as vocalist. They took their name from a Rolling Stones reference, which fit their loose, rebellious approach. Their early shows built a cult following around songs that mixed rock with Brazilian folk elements.

In 1983, the album 'Anunciação' gave them a national hit with its title track, a ballad about unrequited love. Other songs like 'Meu Erro' and 'Telegrama' kept them on Brazilian radio through the mid-80s. Their sound sometimes incorporated jazz and funk touches, though they stayed rooted in rock arrangements.

Montenegro's lyrics often addressed social and political themes, which drew criticism from some quarters during Brazil's military regime. The band faced occasional protests at concerts, but they kept playing through the decade without major lineup changes. Their recordings from this period remain their most familiar work.
