Crowd Deterrent

Crowd Deterrent formed in London in 1978 with Terry Gibson on vocals, Jeremy Miller on guitar, Nick Cash on bass, and Innes Clark on drums. They played a raw, distorted style of punk that drew from bands like the Sex Pistols and the Damned, but with a more confrontational edge. Their 1979 debut album 'In It for Life' included the track 'Career Alcoholic,' which became something of an anthem for listeners who recognized its themes of desperation and self-destruction.

Their lyrics often dealt with alienation, addiction, and social injustice, which sometimes put them at odds with the more conservative parts of the music industry. Songs like 'Drink To Forget' and 'Eat A Bullet' from their catalog continued in that vein, offering a blunt, unfiltered take on difficult subjects. They developed a reputation for explosive live shows and built a following in the underground scene, even as mainstream recognition proved harder to come by.
