A Toronto electronic duo whose distorted sound and controversies left a complicated legacy.
For the early sound, try "Kerosene" or "Vanished." If you want the later, more structured side, "Not In Love" works.
Early tracks like "Untrust Us" and "Crimewave" built a minimal yet unsettling atmosphere with distorted vocals and repetitive basslines. Later songs such as "Celestica" showed a shift toward more polished electropop while keeping that brooding feel.
Crystal Castles formed in Toronto around 2006 with Alice Glass on vocals and Ethan Kath handling production. They released four self-titled albums between 2008 and 2016, with Glass leaving in 2014 and Kath continuing with other vocalists. In 2017, Kath faced sexual misconduct allegations that led to show cancellations.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
