Crystal Taliefero was born in 1947 and started singing in church choirs. In the 1970s, she formed a group called Crystal Taliefero and the Magic Bananas with other musicians.
Her most recognizable work came in 1986 when she collaborated with Bill Martin Jr. on the children's song "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom." The song became widely known, though there were later questions about its origins that Taliefero addressed by saying she drew from a traditional rhyme.
She released several albums including "Let's Play with Crystal" in 1978, the "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" album in 1986, and "Animal Antics" in 1988. Her group included musicians like John Feiertag on guitar and Mark Haney on bass.
