Crystalic

Crystalic formed in the Netherlands in the early 1990s, started by Sander Gommans on guitar and vocals and Frank Schiphorst on bass. Their first album, 'Ice Queen,' came out in 1996 and set up their mix of melodic black metal with haunting harmonies. They had to replace their drummer Niels van der Steenhoven in 2001, bringing in Job van de Berg instead.

By 2006, they were shifting their sound on 'Dead Cold Embrace,' moving toward more modern metal elements. You can hear that evolution in songs like 'Dead Cold Emotion' and 'Blackened Image.'

They kept writing material that leaned into dark, introspective territory, with tracks such as 'Blastbeat of My Heart' and 'Existence Terminated' reflecting that direction. The band's work from that period holds up for listeners who want something melodic but heavy, without the usual metal clichés.
