C.T.L. was a Portuguese music group active in the 1990s. The name stands for Companhia Teatral La Fenice. Their sound mixed traditional African rhythms with contemporary pop, heard on tracks like 'A Tua África' and 'Dia Quente'.
Their debut album, 'A Tua África,' came out in 1991. They followed it with several more records through the 1990s, including 'Vozes Negras' in 1993 and 'Raízes' in 2000. The group disbanded in the early 2000s.
Nelson Freitas was the lead vocalist, songwriter, and producer. Other members included Pedro Gonçalves on bass, Francisco Cunha on guitar, and Luís Alberto on drums. After C.T.L. ended, Freitas went on to a solo career.
