Culto ao Rim

Culto ao Rim formed in São Paulo in 1999, started by Marcelo Camelo and Rodrigo Amarante. They worked with electronic and ambient sounds, putting out their self-titled debut album in 2001. Later records like 'Secretário' from 2004 and 'Selvagem' from 2009 showed them refining that approach.

Their song 'Amaral' became a particular point of attention, with Amarante's vocals floating over a sparse, melodic backdrop. Other tracks like 'Balas de Mim' and 'Capitão Marrom' followed a similar atmospheric path. The music often leaned toward the introspective, which drew a specific audience while leaving some listeners cold.

They kept making music through the 2000s, operating outside mainstream Brazilian pop. The band's output remained relatively modest, a handful of albums over a decade, with their earlier, rougher electronic experiments giving way to more polished but still melancholic arrangements.
