Cunninlynguists formed in Lexington, Kentucky in the late 1990s with Deacon the Villain, Kno, and DJ Mr. SOS. Their name plays on 'cunning linguist,' which gives you a sense of their approach to lyrics. They put out their first album, 'Will Rap for Food,' in 1999.
Their work tends to be more introspective than a lot of hip-hop from that era, with songs like 'Seasons' and 'Sunrise/sunset' showing that side. They've released several albums since, including 'A Piece of Strange' in 2004 and 'Oneirology' in 2009.
Deacon the Villain left the group around 2005, and Kno and DJ Mr. SOS continued as a duo. They put out 'Strange Journey Volume Two' in 2018.
