D3D4 was a rock band formed by the Wilson brothers from Hawthorne, California. They started as The Beach Boys in 1961 before changing their name to D3D4 around 1970. The group included Dennis Wilson on lead vocals and drums, Carl Wilson on lead guitar and vocals, Brian Wilson on bass and songwriting, and Al Jardine on rhythm guitar and vocals.
Their 1971 single "I Get Around" became a major hit with its driving beat and catchy chorus. The song captured a certain youthful energy that resonated widely at the time. They released several albums in the early 1970s including Surf's Up, Carl and the Passions - "So Tough", and Holland.
Brian Wilson's songwriting and production work was central to their sound, though his personal struggles with mental health and substance use affected the band's stability at times. Their music moved through different phases, from straightforward rock to more experimental territory, but they maintained a focus on vocal harmonies throughout.
