Da Cor do Prazer formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1985, with Marcelo Mira on lead vocals and guitar, Guto Barros on bass, and Pedro Pelotas on drums. They started playing in underground clubs, working through the usual early struggles of a new band. Their sound pulled from rock, pop, and funk, and they built a following with songs like 'Fica Comigo' and 'O amor sorriu pra mim'.
The band kept writing, and their music often dealt with love and sexuality, which sometimes drew criticism. They released albums like 'Eu Quero Ver Você' in 1989 and 'Prazer' in 1992, and later worked with other Brazilian musicians including Seu Jorge and Nando Reis.
Their later albums, like 2000's 'Entre o Céu e o Inferno', had a more polished sound. Songs such as 'Me Falta o Ar' and 'Acabou' stayed in their setlists for years. They kept playing and recording, but avoided the grand narratives that sometimes get attached to bands from that era.
