Editor's note

DaeSung, the voice behind Big Bang's ballads

A solo artist known for emotive tracks like 'Wings' and 'Baby Don't Cry'.

For a quick sense of his style, try 'Wings' or 'Baby Don't Cry'. They're straightforward, emotional, and pretty much what you'd expect from him.

DaeSung's solo work offers a softer, more introspective side compared to his group's high-energy hits. Songs like 'Wings' and 'Anymore' lean into heartfelt balladry, with 'Baby Don't Cry' showing his knack for comforting melodies. His catalog includes Japanese tracks like 'Yasashisa de Afureru Yo Ni', broadening his reach beyond K-pop.

He emerged as a member of Big Bang, one of K-pop's defining groups. His solo material, including 'Awake, Alseep' and 'Feelings Deepended', often explores gentler, more personal themes.

Archive material and source history

DaeSung was a Japanese alternative rock band that formed in 1994 with vocalist Kyo and bassist Mao. Guitarist Ryou joined in 1996, and drummer Masato completed the lineup in 1999. Their debut album, "Chigau, Sou Janai," came out in 1997 and found an audience with its direct approach to themes of alienation.

Kyo's lyrics often dealt with social pressure and identity, which drew some criticism but also connected with listeners. The band released a few more albums like "Bokutachi no Ongaku" in 1999 and "Mirai" in 2001 before disbanding in 2003.

Some of their songs that people still talk about include "Feelings Deepened," "Wings," and "Cotton Candy." Their music had a straightforward, guitar-driven sound that didn't try to fit neatly into mainstream J-pop trends of the time.
