Dagoth

Dagoth formed in Norway in the early 1990s, part of that country's black metal scene. Their sound drew from bands like Darkthrone and Mayhem, but with a particularly harsh edge. In 1996 they released the album '1000 Day's In Sodom,' which became their most recognized work. Songs like '7 Gates Of Hell' and 'Angel Of Darkness' from that period show their approach: fast tempos, growled vocals, and lyrics that leaned into dark themes.

Dagoth faced criticism for their lyrical subjects, and a few live shows were reportedly met with protests. The band defended their work as an expression of darker realities, not an endorsement of them. They kept recording through the late '90s, putting out albums like 'IV' and 'The Nocturnal Silence.'

Core members included Ivar Bjørnson on vocals and bass, Ole Aleksander Helgesen on guitar, and Per Morten Mjelve on drums. Their music found an audience in the underground metal community, where the intensity of tracks like 'At War With Satan' and 'Ancient Prophecy' resonated. They didn't soften their sound much over those years, staying with the abrasive style they established early on.
