Editor's note

Daigo Stardust's glittering, resilient rock journey

A Japanese rock band that formed in 2003, known for anthems like 'D*Trance' and weathering personal and creative storms.

For the big, unapologetic sound, start with 'Rock The Planet'. 'Dear Sunshin' gives you a different, slightly sweeter angle on what they do.

They've built a catalog that's both energetic and surprisingly durable. 'DTrance' became their signature track, a song that sparked its own controversy before settling into the setlist. Tunes like 'Rock The Planet' and 'I Wanna Be Your Star' show they've always aimed for the rafters, even when the frontman was managing chronic fatigue.

They came together in 2003 and put out their first album, 'The Birth', in 2007. The releases kept coming, from 'DTrance' in 2009 to 'Infinity' in 2020, with the same core lineup holding steady through it all.

Daigo Stardust formed in 2003 when vocalist Daigo met guitarist Asahi. Their debut album 'The Birth' came out in 2007, and they've released several albums since then including 'DTrance' in 2009, 'Stargazer' in 2011, and 'Infinity' in 2020. The band includes Daigo on vocals, Asahi on guitar, Ryota on bass, and Shu on drums.

Their song 'DTrance' from 2009 became particularly well-known. Among their other tracks are 'I Wanna Be Your Star,' 'Dolly,' 'Dear Sunshin,' and 'Rock The Planet.'

Daigo has dealt with chronic fatigue syndrome while continuing with the band. There were also some plagiarism questions around 'DTrance' at one point, though those were eventually resolved.
