Daisy The Great formed in 2017, with Kelley Nicole Dugan and Kevin Circa meeting as teenagers in Redlands, California. They started playing local open mics and small venues, eventually releasing their first EP 'All You Need Is Now' in 2018. Their sound developed around Dugan and Circa's shared vocal duties, with Michael Tarabay joining on drums and percussion.
Their 2021 self-titled album included songs like 'The Record Player Song' and 'Persephone,' which helped define their approach to folk-pop with layered harmonies. They've mentioned listening to Joni Mitchell and Phoebe Bridgers, but their recordings have a direct, unadorned quality that keeps the focus on the vocals and lyrics.
In 2020, a former band member made public allegations about bullying and emotional abuse involving Dugan. The band acknowledged the situation in a statement at the time. They continued releasing music afterward, putting out the EP 'Remember' in 2022 with tracks like 'Glitter' and 'Cry In The Mirror.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
