Dale Watson

Dale Watson grew up in Pasadena, Texas, and started playing guitar early. He formed his first band, The Lone Stars, in 1985, playing in local bars and honky-tonks. His music draws from traditional country sounds, with songs like 'Honkiest Tonkiest Beer Joint' and 'Cheatin' Heart Attack' reflecting that straightforward approach.

In 1995, Watson released the album 'I Hate These Songs,' which included a title track that took a satirical look at mainstream country music. That record helped establish him with listeners who appreciated his traditional leanings. He followed it with albums like 'Cheatin' Heart Attack' and 'The Truckin' Sessions,' continuing to work in a style that felt rooted in earlier country.

Watson has been outspoken about the direction of country music. He's kept recording since then, putting out records like 'Call Me Insane' and 'El Rancho Azul' on his own terms.

His band The Lone Stars has included players like Billy Horton on guitar and Don Pawlak on pedal steel over time. Watson's recordings, which now number more than twenty albums, stick to a sound that avoids contemporary country production, favoring clean guitar lines and unadorned vocals.
