Dama Bete formed in Brasília in 1997. The band includes Ana Cláudia Lomelino on vocals, Nando Reis and Samuel Rosa on guitar and vocals, Felipe Cordeiro on bass, and Hugo Bardi on drums. Their debut album came out in 1998.
Songs like "Mulher a Sério" and "Família Feliz" show their mix of Brazilian rhythms with rock and pop elements. Early on, they faced some financial difficulties and criticism for that unconventional sound.
