Dama Púrpura formed in São Paulo in 1982 around bassist Paulo Sérgio Santos, guitarist Lucinha Turnbull, and vocalist Adilson Santos. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1984, but it was their second record, 1986's 'Músicas Para Ouvir em Silêncio,' that brought them wider attention with the song 'Anjo Meu.'
That track became their most recognizable piece, but their catalog includes other songs like 'Brilho Seu,' 'Débora,' and 'Estradas.' The band's lineup shifted over time, with Adilson Santos leaving in 1987 and Lucinha Turnbull departing around 1992.
They kept recording through the late '80s and '90s, putting out albums such as 'A Fonte dos Desejos' in 1988 and 'O Terceiro Lado' in 1992. A legal issue with Sony Music in 1995 briefly interrupted their work, but they returned with 'Renascimento' in 2003.
