Damatz was a Portuguese hip-hop quartet from Lisbon that formed in the early 2000s. The group consisted of Capicua, Regula, Maze, and Deezy. Their name translates to 'family,' which reflected their close connection, and they had a song called 'Família' that became something of an anthem for them.
They released their self-titled debut album in 2004. Later records included 'Contra-Ataque' in 2006, 'Dor de Alma' in 2008, and 'III' in 2012. Their music often dealt with social issues, which sometimes drew criticism alongside praise.
Capicua handled most of the vocals with what people described as an introspective delivery. Regula was known for his wordplay. The group's sound mixed soulful beats with lyrics that aimed for substance over flash. Other songs in their catalog include 'Urbano Mundo,' 'Samba Na Pista,' 'O Rio,' and 'Fatos.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
