Dan Lancaster grew up in Kingsbridge, Devon, England, in a musical household where he heard everything from classical to rock. He started writing songs influenced by Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, focusing on lyrics and melodies that felt direct and unadorned.
In 2010, he formed a band with guitarist Tom Johns, bassist Joel Stone, and drummer James Marsh. They played local venues and festivals, building a sound around storytelling and straightforward arrangements. Their debut EP, "The Weight of the World," came out in 2017.
The band's 2019 single "Move a Mountain" became their most recognizable track. It led to their first full album, "Rising from the Ashes," in 2021. Lancaster's voice and the band's uncomplicated approach kept them going through the usual lineup shifts and financial strains of independent music.
