Seals had two distinct musical lives that both connected with people. First came the soft rock of Seals & Crofts, where songs like "Summer Breeze" defined a sound. Then, as a solo artist, he wrote country ballads like "Meet Me In Montana" that felt just as lived-in and direct.

He started writing early in Texas, then formed Seals & Crofts with his brother in 1966. After about a decade with the duo, he went solo in 1981 and released albums like "Stones" and "Harbinger" through the 1980s and early 1990s.

Dan Seals was born in McCamey, Texas in 1948. He started writing songs early, influenced by country and gospel sounds. In 1966, he formed the soft rock duo Seals & Crofts with his brother Jim, and they had hits like "Summer Breeze" and "Diamond Girl."

After about a decade with the duo, Seals went solo in 1981. His debut album "Stones" included the ballad "One Friend," which became a global hit. Other songs from his catalog include "Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold)" and "Meet Me In Montana."

Seals released several albums through the 1980s and early 1990s, including "Harbinger," "Runaway Love," and "On Solid Ground." He died in 2009 at age 61.
