Archive material and source history
Dan Zimmerman was born Daniel Zimmerman in Oakland, California in 1974. His father worked as a music journalist, which meant the house was filled with records spanning rock, soul, and funk.
In 1999, he formed a band with bassist Jeff Zagar and drummer Malcolm Bishop. They signed to Sub Pop and released their debut album 'Body' in 2001.
After Zagar and Bishop left in 2004, Zimmerman kept working under his own name. He put out 'A Name, a Color, a Shape' in 2007, which had a quieter, more experimental feel than the earlier material. Later albums included 'Excerpts' in 2010 and 'Variations' in 2019.
