Archive material and source history
The Dana Fuchs Band formed in New York City around 2003, originally called Dana Fuchs and the Troublemakers. Dana Fuchs had been singing since her teens, drawing from soul influences like Etta James and Tina Turner. The lineup has changed over time, with guitarist Jon Diamond, drummer Tom Hambridge, and keyboardist Sam Kassirer playing in the group at various points.
They put out their first album, simply titled 'Dana Fuchs,' in 2004. A few years later came 'Love to Beg,' which leaned more toward soul and gospel than straight blues. Their song 'Strung Out' shows the kind of raw, blues-rock sound they're known for.
In 2011, Fuchs performed with a live bird on stage, which drew some criticism from animal rights groups. She said the bird was treated well, but it became a minor point of discussion around the band for a while.
