Dance Or Die

Dance Or Die formed in Coventry in the late 1970s, with Tim Wright on vocals. They drew from art-rock and punk, taking cues from the Velvet Underground, David Bowie, and Joy Division. Their sound didn't fit neatly into one category, which made them hard to pin down for some listeners.

Their debut album was self-titled, followed by records like 'Loveless' and 'Strange World' that moved toward more atmospheric territory. The song 'After Dinner Sparks' came out in 1981 and became their most recognized track, a sparse, moody piece that captured a certain post-punk feeling. Other songs in their catalog include 'Der Lügenbaron' and 'Barroque 3000'.

They developed a small but dedicated following, though their approach sometimes struck people as aloof or pretentious. The band's catalog holds up as an example of that late-70s, early-80s British post-punk that valued texture and mood over immediacy.
