Dance Yourself to Death formed in the early 2000s around vocalist Raven Black, guitarist Damien Shadow, and drummer Reaper. Their music got labeled as darkwave or gothic industrial, which kept them from reaching mainstream audiences but built them a dedicated cult following. Songs like "Living Funeral" from their debut album Echoes of the Dead became touchstones for that audience.
Raven Black's lyrics dealt with alienation, loss, and darker themes, which drew criticism from some quarters for being too bleak. The band didn't really shift from that position, and albums like Nightfall and Requiem for the Lost continued in a similar vein. They have other tracks like "Teenage Romanticide" and "Sea of Love" that fit within that established sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
