Daniel Ayres is a vocalist and guitarist who came up in Rio de Janeiro. He's best known as a founding member of the Brazilian band Baqueta Num Canto, which formed in the mid-1990s with vocalist Tayguara Fernandes and percussionist Fabio Alves. The band's name translates to 'drumstick in the corner.'
Baqueta Num Canto's self-titled debut album arrived in 1998. The record blended samba, reggae, and Afro-Brazilian rhythms, and it found a national audience. The band's sound later incorporated funk, soul, and jazz on albums like '3' in 2001 and the live recording 'Ao Vivo no Auditório Ibirapuera' in 2005.
Ayres began releasing solo work in 2008 with an album under his own name. He has also collaborated with artists including Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, and Marisa Monte.
