Daniel Borges

Daniel Borges came up in Rio de Janeiro, where his father was a samba musician. He started absorbing rock, blues, and classical music early on, which gave his own writing a particular shape. His debut album, 'Inocentes, Nós?', came out in 1982 and put him on the map.

That song, 'Inocentes, Nós?', became his most recognized piece. He kept writing through that, putting out albums like 'Palavras ao Vento' in 1985 and 'Alma Carioca' in 1989.

His music was often described as raw and emotional, built from those early influences. He worked for years without much radio play or label support, relying instead on a core group of listeners who connected with what he was doing.
