Daniel Cavanagh

Daniel Cavanagh was born in Liverpool in 1972 and started playing guitar around age 15. He co-founded the band Anathema in 1990 with his brother Jamie and friends Duncan Patterson and John Douglas. The group began with a death-doom metal sound but gradually shifted toward progressive rock.

One of Cavanagh's notable songs is "The Exorcist," which appeared on Anathema's 1998 album Alternative 4. The track features atmospheric guitar work and has remained a fan favorite. Other songs like "This Music" and "Black Eyed Dog" reflect his tendency toward melancholic melodies.

Anathema went through lineup changes and financial difficulties in the early 2000s, and Cavanagh stayed with the band through those periods. Their sound continued to evolve, sometimes drawing mixed reactions from listeners who preferred their earlier work.
