Danzel is the stage name of Johan Waem, a Belgian artist born in Antwerp in 1976. He started making music as a teenager and was part of the dance group DJ D-Licious in the mid-1990s. In 2004, he released 'Pump It Up,' a collaboration with Swedish producer Basshunter that became a global hit.
'Pump It Up' topped charts in over 30 countries and defined his sound, leading to other tracks like 'Put your hands up in the air' and 'Clap Your Hands.' The song's success brought international attention, but it also led to a copyright dispute in 2005 over similarities to Gala's 'Love to Infinity,' which was settled out of court.
He released several albums and singles through the 2000s, including 'My Arms Keep Missing You' and 'Undercover.' While his later work didn't match the scale of 'Pump It Up,' that track remains a staple on dance floors.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
