Dao do Brega & Companhia came out of Recife in the 1980s, mixing brega and forró rhythms. Their debut album was called 'Faixa 1' in 1985. The band was led by Fernando Bezerra on vocals, with Múcio Ramos on guitar, Alberto Silva on bass, and Gilson Oliveira on drums.
They put out a few more records after that first one, like 'Mulher do Mundo' in 1986 and 'O Brega do Amor' in 1988. Their lyrics often touched on everyday life and social themes, which connected with working-class listeners in Brazil.
Their sound was raw and direct at a time when that wasn't always welcome in more polished music circles. They kept at it through the decade, releasing 'Saudade do Meu País' in 1990.
