Daredevil formed in the 1970s with Mark Free on vocals and guitar, Steve West on bass, Mike Knox on drums, and Doug Fieger on keyboards. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1977, followed by 'Waiting in the Wings' in 1979 and 'Into the Arena' in 1980. They had a straightforward rock sound that included songs like 'For You' and 'Learn The Hard Way'.
In 1978, they released 'Hang On,' which became their most recognizable track. The song connected with listeners in a way that felt personal, not just another radio hit. Other songs from that period include 'Right Before Your Eyes' and 'Bring Me To Life.'
After their debut, the band got tangled in a lawsuit over their name. It was a serious legal fight that could have ended things early, but they managed to push through it. They kept touring and recording through the late '70s and into the early '80s.
