Dario Gomez was born in San Jeronimo, Antioquia in 1951. He started playing guitar and accordion as a boy, influenced by the carrangeras and vallenatos of his region. As a teenager he formed a band called Los Legendarios and played in local bars and festivals.
In the 1970s his song 'La Tirana' became a national hit in Colombia. He went on to record over 40 albums that mixed traditional Colombian music with rancheras and boleros.
He worked with other Colombian artists like Diomedes Diaz and Paola Jara. Songs like 'Sobreviviré' and 'El Rey Del Despecho' continued his style of direct, emotional storytelling set to regional rhythms. In 2012 he faced tax evasion charges, but kept recording music afterward.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
