Darius formed in Stockholm in the early 1980s with Stefan Olsdal on vocals and guitar, Lars Ljungberg on guitar, Thomas Silver on bass, and Mats Persson on drums. Their self-titled debut came out in 1983. The band's sound leaned into melodic rock with layered harmonies and clean guitar work.
Some of their songs like 'Night Birds' and 'Carried Away' show that melodic approach. They put out albums through the '80s and '90s, including 'Love Is All We Need' in 1987 and 'Wildfire' in 1997. The same four members have stayed together for most of the band's run.
Darius released 'Night Birds' in 2019, which suggests they've kept recording on their own terms. Their catalog has a consistency to it, they never really shifted toward harder edges or electronic production, just stuck with what they do.
