The Los Angeles band that pushed thrash to its most aggressive limits with 'Darkness Descends'.
If you want to understand what made Dark Angel matter, put on 'Darkness Descends.' The sheer velocity of that record still feels like a challenge.
When most thrash bands were finding their footing, Dark Angel came out swinging with a particularly brutal approach. The title track from 'Darkness Descends' along with songs like 'Death Is Certain (Life Is Not)' and 'Black Prophecies' showed they weren't interested in compromise. Their 1986 album became a benchmark for how fast and heavy the genre could get.
They formed in Los Angeles in 1981 and released their debut 'We Have Arrived' in 1984. 'Darkness Descends' in 1986 defined their sound, and they kept recording through the late '80s and early '90s before breaking up in 1991. The band got back together in 2013 with some different members and started playing shows again.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
