Dark New Day formed in Los Angeles around 2003 after the initial breakup of Stone Temple Pilots. Guitarist Dean DeLeo and bassist Robert DeLeo from that band teamed up with vocalist Clint Lowery, who had been with Sevendust, and drummer Josh Freese. They put out their first album, 'Twelve Year Silence,' in 2005.

Their sound leaned into hard rock and alternative metal, with songs like 'Goodbye' and 'Follow The Sun Down' showing off Lowery's vocals over the DeLeo brothers' guitar work. Freese left in 2006 and was replaced by Jeff Friedl. The band's second album, 'Black Porch,' came out in 2008.

Dark New Day broke up in 2009. Afterward, Dean and Robert DeLeo rejoined Scott Weiland for the Stone Temple Pilots reunion, while Lowery and Friedl worked on other projects.
