Dark Signal formed in the early 2000s with Emily Lazar on vocals, Ethan Reed on guitar, James Carter on bass, and Daniel Hale on drums. Their debut album 'Ashes to Ashes' came out in 2005, followed by 'Fallen' in 2007 and 'Build You Back' in 2010. The title track from that third album became one of their most recognizable songs, along with 'Impatient' and 'Drag Me To Hell'.
Lazar's soprano voice gave the band its distinctive sound over Reed's atmospheric guitar work and Hale's driving drums. They worked with Spencer Sotelo on the track 'Control' from their catalog. Their 2013 album 'Echoes of the Lost' was structured as a concept record.
The band stopped releasing new music after 2017. Their recordings from that period show a group that had settled into a particular style, melodic but heavy, with clean vocals cutting through distorted guitars and steady rhythm section work.
