Daryl Hall started making music in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and eventually formed Hall & Oates with John Oates in 1971. Their 1973 album 'Abandoned Luncheonette' was an early breakthrough, and they went on to record hits like 'Sara Smile' and 'Private Eyes' through the 1970s and 1980s.
While continuing to work with Oates, Hall also released solo material. His 1986 album 'Sacred Songs' leaned into R&B and gospel influences, and he later put out tracks like 'Gloryland' and 'Someone like you.'
Hall has kept recording and performing over time, both with the duo and on his own. The 2003 Hall & Oates album 'Do It for Love' was one of several later projects, and his songwriting has touched on everything from soulful ballads to upbeat pop.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
