Daryll-Ann

Daryll-Ann formed in the early 1990s with Daryll-Ann Weiss on vocals, Marc Ribot on guitar, Brad Jones on bass, and Joey Baron on drums. They put out albums like 'Daryll-Ann' in 1992, 'I'll Be Your Sister' in 1994, 'Boy' in 1996, and 'Bad 80s' in 1999. Their songs, including 'A Piece Of Work (i'm Trying Her)' and 'A Proper Line,' didn't fit neatly into one genre, mixing rock with jazz and other sounds.

Weiss's direct vocal style worked against Ribot's sharp guitar playing, Jones's bass lines, and Baron's drumming. Their lyrics touched on personal and social themes, which sometimes drew attention for how plainly they addressed things. The band operated mostly in independent circles, playing shows that built them a following without much mainstream notice.

They kept making music through the '90s, putting out records every few years. The group's sound stayed consistent in its mix of approaches, even as the music around them changed. By the end of the decade, they had a handful of albums that captured their particular way of putting songs together.
