Das Pop started as a band in Antwerp, Belgium, originally calling themselves The Radios in 1994 before switching to the name Das Pop around 1997. The group included Bent Van Looy on vocals and guitar, Stef Kamil Carlens on bass and vocals, and Reinhard Vanbergen on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1999, featuring the track 'A Different Beat,' which helped them gain attention.
Over the next few years, they put out albums like 'Six Inches Above The Ground' in 2001 and 'Lucky People' in 2003, building a reputation for energetic live shows. In 2004, they faced some backlash after an incident at a Belgian festival where they were criticized for remarks made to the crowd, which led to a brief break. They returned with 'Das Pop is Back' in 2006, followed by records such as 'The Miserable Man' in 2009 and 'The Game' in 2014.
Songs like 'A Naked Girl' and 'Baby Of Gold' from their catalog show a mix of indie rock and electronic touches, with lyrics that often lean toward the introspective. They kept recording and playing without much fanfare, sticking to their sound rather than chasing trends.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
